CS373 Fall 2020: Lauren Mangibin
What did you do this past week?
This week has been pretty relaxing. Our frontend team was able to get sorting, searching, and filtering done for each model page using the MaterialUI data tables. It loads very slowly so we need to figure out how to cache the response. Furthermore, we were able to search and highlight results from the whole site using Algolia. We put the results on a separate page and categorized them by our City, Countries, and Years model since Algolia searches by different indices, or in our case, models.
What’s in your way?
Not much. We’re progressing well on the project. Other than caching and making the website look good, I think we’re on track for finishing Phase 3 with less stress than last time. Our customers haven’t given us their user stories yet either, so I’ve reminded them to do so.
What will you do next week?
Next week, we’ll finish up phase 3 and start phase 4, which the frontend is very excited to work on since it is mostly design-oriented. We’ll try and get the user stories done by Tuesday night as well.
If you read it, what did you think of The Interface Segregation Principle?
It was actually very relevant to my experiences during my past internship. I did Android development and they always had delegate files to get the information they needed to display on the front end. I didn’t understand what delegates were at the time despite asking about them a lot, but the explanation from the paper made a lot of sense because of my experiences with it.
What was your experience of instance methods, class methods, static methods, regular expressions, and relational algebra?
The different types of methods have so much in common, yet so many nuances that it makes it hard to keep up. Regular expression is cool. I haven’t used it extensively yet, but as someone who loves shortcuts, I will probably use it more now that I understand it better. Relational Algebra doesn’t seem too bad so far.
What made you happy this week?
We had the Diversity Org Halloween social on Friday, and it was a success. We played Jackbox games and raffled out prizes, and my podlings came! I also finished my Kdrama on Halloween. It was a good story, and although I’m sad it’s over I think it ended well.
