What did you do this past week?

This past week was so hectic… I had five tests this week and an interview on top of teaching a dance class, but we made it through! I’m surprised at how much I was able to accomplish in the span of 7 days. In terms of the project, our group just finished getting the website up on AWS Elastic Beanstalk (FINALLYY!) after spending 2 weeks on trying to get AWS Amplify to work. We eventually got fed up that our website wasn’t deploying that we decided to start from scratch, and it was a success!

The website looks jank right now since we were focusing on getting it up, but the frontend has been working on getting all the different types of media on each instance page and populating them with data from the backend.

What’s in your way?

I’ve mentioned the learning curve before as an obstacle, which is true, but I think I’ve been getting enough experience to move a little faster than I had previously. In general, I think it’s just my other classes that don’t allow me to work on this project as much as I could.

What will you do next week?

I’m not too sure what we need to do for the next phase of this project, but right after we’re turning this phase in, we’re having a group meeting to discuss what we need to do. Our instincts on how long tasks will take are very unrefined, and we’ve spent a lot more time on things than we expected.

What was your experience of Test #1?

I thought Test #1 was alright. My project partners and I studied together before the exam and wrote some example problems, which helped for the exam (RIP yield). I definitely did not do well on that first part of Day 1, but I’m glad we have the 2 phase testing to average our grade out. While the 2-phase testing is helpful, I felt like 3 hours of testing was a bit much.

What made you happy this week?

I went back to my One Direction phase this weekend, just for a little.

I also realized this weekend that I’ve gotten very comfortable with my project partners, which is always fun. They’re not even phased by the weird noises and intermittent screams of frustration that I make every 30 minutes, so I’m glad that we’ve been able to grow closer.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

I recently got blue light filter glasses, and they really help! I know people always say you can use a blue light filter for your laptop, but flux wasn’t working on my linux machine. I don’t have migraines anymore though! It’s been a big improvement especially now that I’m on my computer for 8 hours straight.
