What did you do this past week?

This past week we finished Phase 2 of the website! We started planning right away for Phase 3 as we didn’t want to get behind like the last time. We decided to use Notion to list out all the things we needed to do. I really like using Notion because you can assign due dates and visually see what’s on your ToDo list for that day. You can also add tags like “Frontend” or “Backend” or assign people. We also use Toggl Track to time how much we time we’ve spent on our project. It’s nice to see a tab open that says “1:38:47” because it brings perspective on how long I’ve been sitting down for, and how much time we’ve been s l a v i n g away at this project.

I guess our team decided to go Agile then huh.

What’s in your way?

Our Jest and Selenium tests are getting held up by the chromedriver and we don’t know how to fix it so we’re going to office hours to get that figured out. We also need to configure our data in such a way that it’s easy to search, sort, and filter. We need to find a tool/library to do that for us too.

What will you do next week?

Implement all the things! The project is due a week and a half later starting Monday, so we need to get on it. We plan to look more into searching and trying to get it done by Wednesday. Sorting will be on that Saturday and filtering will be by Monday night. *hopefully*. I think we need to become more involved in each other’s groups so we know what is going on.

If you read it, what did you think of Ethical CS?

I enjoy learning about the ethics of CS. I think it should be taught more. Interestingly at UT, we don’t have a required ethics course. We have an ethics flag, but you can take any course that satisfies the requirement and it doesn’t even have to be an ethics course.

What was your experience of functions, lambdas, and decorators?

THE QUIZZES ARE KILLING ME. I keep thinking I understand the information, but I run out of time, and then *boop* 2/5. I need to play around with the concept more.

What made you happy this week?

I feel very fulfilled. All the things I had been planning for since the summer finish either this weekend or next weekend: I had a retreat this weekend that I was on leadership for; we completed the music video I helped choreograph starting the summer; I’m about to decide which company I’ll be interning at this week. I am so blessed to have all these opportunities, wow.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Notion!! I think our group's use of it, as I explained previously, has helped us tremendously when working on this project. It’s free with your utexas email.
