Entry 11

Yall I don’t know any more songs with the word Hello in them

What did you do this past week?

So.. we didn’t really start the project yet. Both of us had a busy week since I had an algorithms test and various assignments to finish and my partner was being the responsible OS TA that he is. We met up to discuss how we wanted to implement the project and started doing some of the I/O for it.

What’s in your way?

Motivation. I think the most frustrating thing for me when learning from home is that I waste time not paying attention when I’ve specifically dedicated that hour or that class to learn or do whatever I need to do. This has been affecting how long it takes me to finish the necessary tasks.

What will you do next week?

AH (start…) FINISH THE PROJECT! (And do the vector implementation HackerRanks). I trust that we’ll finish the project in a timely manner. We need to finish I/O, flesh out the classes, develop a vector of functions, basically the whole workflow. Oh my.

What was your experience of vector?

I haven’t been able to implement it with the HackerRanks on my own, but I appreciated it when we went over the copy constructor and assignment operator. It made me realize how much thought was put into creating the language and the importance of how we should think about design as computer scientists.

What was your experience of the ethics material?

I was scared. I partly understood how much of an ethical role computer scientists had in society, but reading the PowerPoint shed light on the nuances of our decisions. Yes, it is easy to make the right choice when there is no pressure placed on you, but when it comes down to it, most people take the path of least resistance. I hope that in the future, I will be strong enough to make the right decision and stand up for myself and my beliefs even in the toughest situation.

What made you happy this week?

It’s Easter! Although Christmas is my favorite time of the year, Easter is meaningful to my family, and I’m happy to be at home with them.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Use Facebook Messenger. I know some of yall don’t use Facebook or don’t even have one, but it’s been useful for quick copy-pasting, sending files, photos, group messages and calls (especially for us Android kids who see “MyDude loved ‘Wow!’” on our phones).
