What did you do this past week?
Welp, this week is one for the books. Class was canceled today 3/12 due to cases of COVID-19 found at UT, the competition we prepared 3 months for was also canceled, some of my classes have moved online, I didn’t get to properly say goodbye to the seniors … wow.
But this week I created my cheat sheet, took Part 1 of the OOP test, looked at the allocator project, found a partner. Not much happened academically this week, to be honest.
What’s in your way?
I think the fact that my partner and I will be in different cities while we work on this project will make things a bit complicated, but there are definite avenues for collaboration like Facetime and online codeshares. I also think that it will take a while to understand the allocator project and what we need to do outside of writing the actual project.
What will you do next week?
I will take the time to relax next week. I haven’t seen my family in over a month, so it will be nice to hang out with them again. Afterward, I will catch up on homework and studying for tests and work on the allocator project with my partner.
What was your experience of Test #1a?
Test #1a wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be! The questions were predictable, and I appreciate how it reflected what we did in class. I put so much on the cheat sheet that I didn’t use. Unfortunately, Test #1b and was canceled, so the date for the test was moved and I was ready to get it over with.
What made you happy this week?
I was with my dance team when I heard that our competition was canceled because of COVID-19. We dedicated several hours every day for months creating and cleaning the set, even staying up until 2 am perfecting the moves. So, I am grateful that I was with them when we heard the news. Some of us cried; some of us were in shock, but we were planning to stay up until 2 am anyway that day, so we just went outside of Greg and danced. It was one of the most humbling and beautiful moments I’ve experienced.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My pick of the week is an app called Money Manager. It’s a very simple app that allows you to track your expenses and label them with minimalist icons. It also displays your expenses in a pie chart, and you can export them to an excel spreadsheet.
